Woodbridge is a rural and relatively underdeveloped community despite the fact that it is very close to a number of urban centers such as New Haven, Waterbury and Bridgeport. The town has endeavored to retain its original country character with well-planned neighborhoods and educational opportunities. Interstate highway 95 is close enough to provide easy commutes to busy shopping districts and places of employment.
Residents live predominantly in single-family homes of various sizes. Lots are fairly roomy and most are wooded with wide-open spaces interspersed. There is also a good inventory of larger and more luxurious estates set upon large parcels of pristine countryside.
Woodbridge offers a broad selection of sporting and leisure activities. The Blue Trail System, which spans across the entire town, provides spectacular opportunities for nature walks and hiking. The town is also the site of the Annual Easter Seals Volleyball Marathon hosted by the Connecticut Volleyball Center, a major fundraiser for the Easter Seals Goodwill Industries Rehabilitation Center.
As part of a regional public school district, Woodbridge is the site of an elementary school and high school. Junior high school students attend classes in neighboring Bethany. The system features a very popular college preparatory with a curriculum of computer programming, art, music, drama and foreign languages. The schools also offer vocational training and specialized classes for handicapped students. |
