Southbury , Connecticut is a typical suburban community with easy access to highways. The town itself has a number of business parks and shopping centers as well as Bullet Hill School ; one of the oldest school buildings in the United States , built in 1642. Lake Zoar offers swimming and horseback riding; the town also maintains a number of athletic fields and tennis courts. An active arts community holds concerts, plays and festivals throughout the year. The town is home to Heritage Village a 2,600 unit retirement community and also has a number of beautiful single family homes and condominiums in traditional and more contemporary styles.

Bordered on the west side by the Housatonic River, Southbury is a delightful New England town with a rich history. Ever since the development of interstate highway 84, Southbury has taken on the character of a suburban community complete with shopping malls and an IBM office building right off the highway.

Neighborhoods are friendly with a wide variety of housing opportunities from single-family homes to condominiums and rental units. Heritage Village is a 2,600 unit retirement community on a hill near the center of town. Trees and foliage shroud the complex such that it fits in well with the surrounding elements of the town.

Southbury is made up of several distinct villages with unique historical roots that add great character and interest to the area. Russian Village was designed by the son of Leo Tolstoy and settled by immigrants escaping from the Russian Revolution. Main Street, which is lined with the striking architecture of the town's very first homes, was once a Pomperaug Indian trail. The Bullet Hill School on Main Street is one of the oldest school buildings in the country. It was started back in 1642. Today it is used as a museum of sorts where students can go to experience a typical school day like it was back in the nineteenth century. The Colonial House, which now serves as a community center, once belonged to entertainer Victor Borge.

The rural nature of Southbury makes for great leisure activities and outdoor adventures. Lake Zoar offers swimming and boasting as well as facilities and trails for horseback riding. The town's Athletic Association maintains ball fields and tennis courts. The Cultural Arts Committee presents delightful musical events and dramatic performances all year long and sponsors an Arts Festival in the spring.
