Madison , Connecticut is one of the more high-end residential communities in New Haven County . With some of the most beautiful beaches in the area Madison is popular vacation spot as well as a desirable place to call home. The real estate market has a lot to offer summer rentals, beachside estates, historical homes along the town green, as well as more contemporary homes and condominiums.

With some of the most spectacular beaches in Connecticut, Madison is a prime spot for New England summer vacations. Visitors scramble during the winter months to grab one of the many summer rental cottages that dot the town's shoreline. Residents live in a variety of home styles from elegant oceanfront estates to comfortable colonial and federal period homes. There are also newer capes and ranches along with some cozy apartments.

Madison, which is named after the fourth American president, started as a shipbuilding and fishing community. Today it is mostly residential. Well-preserved 17th century homes surround the dignified town green in the Madison Green Historic District. Festivals and concerts are held throughout the year.

The peaceful downtown area is great for walking. Main Street is packed with redbrick and white clapboard stores, antique shops, galleries and cafes.

The beaches are reserved for town residents and local hotel guests during the warm seasons. The Hammonasset State Park is possibly the finest beach in the state with a long peninsula that juts out into Long Island Sound. It is one of the few places in Connecticut that visitors can actually watch the sunset over the ocean.

Madison's school system offers an excellent college preparatory program along with adult education and special courses for handicapped students. Private schools are also available.

In addition to the beautiful public and private beaches, the town offers ample opportunity for swimming and boating. There are plenty of ball fields, tennis courts and playgrounds as well as a fine selection of private golf courses.
