Home Buyers and Sellers get an Extended Break!

The Home Buyer Tax Credit is extended and expanded.

With so many CT homes for sale still on the market, extending the tax credit is great news for both buyers and sellers of Connecticut real estate. The new and improved law provides tax incentives for repeat home buyers as well as first time home buyers. CT real estate will get a boost at a typically slow time of the year from the Home Buyer Tax Credit Extension. Residential real estate in Connecticut is now just beginning to show signs of recovery and momentum. The extension aids home sales by helping to clean out the old inventory of homes for sale, reducing market time for sellers, lowering buyer costs and continuing the positive trend in Connecticut home sales.

Features of the Home Buyer Tax Credit Extension
An extension of the $8000 first time home buyer tax credit
A new $6500 repeat home buyer credit
Income levels are $125,000 for individuals and $225,000 for joint filers.
Sale price must be $800,000 or less.
Home buyers need binding contracts by April 30 to qualify.

The Connecticut Association of Realtors website has a nice breakdown of the new legislation. See the links below for more information.
